Modern Day Cinderella Inc. began as a way to fulfill an overwhelming need to help teen girls deal with the issues that life continues to throw at them head on. In February of 2011 we began with a single program that we called the Cinderella Boutique where we held a prom dress drive and later cleaned, steamed, and distributed those dresses and accessories to area high school young ladies in need free of charge. By doing so, we gave them an opportunity that many may not have had. The chance to feel and look beautiful for one of the most important days of their lives...Prom! Since, that faithful day we've taken off running and have yet to look back.
In 2012, after our second boutique and self-esteem workshop the need for our program became more evident. So, we stepped out on faith, applied for and received our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status here in the state of Ohio, held various events from Teen Halloween Skate Parties to Zumbathon® fundraisers, and partnered with various companies, and organizations.
To date we have added three (3) new programs one being our "Speak Up, Speak Out, Be Heard" Anti-bullying Initiative which we were awarded a Wal-Mart Community Grant for (2014), several fundraisers, and events like our Mom's Night Out and Mother-Daughter Date Night which focus on sisterhood and relationship building. Three years ago (2015), we started the Betty L. Gooch Scholarship Fund where we awarded three (3) college scholarships to local high school young ladies totaling $1,000; and we were also blessed to be awarded our second Wal-Mart Community Grant, this time for our Cinderella Boutique.
The ladies of Modern Day Cinderella Inc. are a diverse and loving group who know that the possibilities are endless, and that our work can and will continue to make a difference. Stay tuned because if 2017 is any example, then 2018 is going to be off the charts and full of more amazing things from both Modern Day Cinderella Inc. and the young ladies we serve!
